f stops or apeture

My first post will be on f stops or apeture.

Most of my friends asked me on how to make photo looks blur at the background. Well, the secret is apeture or f stops. Here i will use f stops as my discussion.

The smaller the f stops, the more the background looks blur ( or bokeh ) but it depends on what u want to achieve for your end product- which is the outcome of your photo. It doesn't means the lower f point the outcome will be better.

I like using f/2.8 for portrait and sometimes i even use above f/2.8 but lower than f/4.0. I love the bokeh but i also want my subject to be sharp. f/2.8/f -f/3.2 is my ideal f point.

Experiment with f stops.

I am using canon 50mm f1/8 lens. The green pig as my subject.

Photo no 1 - f/1.8

Photo no 2 -f/2.8

Photo no 3 - f/4

As you can see, the object is sharper but less bokeh effect when i increase the f stops.

This is one of my favorite photos. I am using canon 70-200 mm, f/2.8. The sharpness and bokeh is perfect for me :)
